the bull elephant had just seen its family across the roadbut it stopped in the road blocking our pathit did not cross to join the herdit remained too close at the edge for safe passage, ears out, steadfastthe ranger carefully moved the vehicle forwardjudicious and considerate use of short engine revs caused the bull to step backa step or two backwardsthen another tentative step... almost to the point of safe passageahah, there is room for safe passagewe scooted past, leaving the bull wondering but in command
